By Dr. Gail Cloud
What if we were to start our days by tuning in instead of tuning outward? These days most of us wake up and go on our phones right away, or our computers. What if instead, we checked in with how we are feeling, drank some water to rehydrate, and stepped outside in good weather, or stood by a window in inclement weather, and breathed in the new day? And then, actually took a few minutes here, in this place, to just be and just feel.
Even new parents can do this; but maybe after feeding their baby or changing their baby. They can even hold their baby as they do this, giving him/her the same experience as you, as their feelings are your feelings.
This way your day can start in a new way; in touch with you and your whole being. No one has taught us to be in our bodies. We have learned how to engage with others, please others, do what we are supposed to do and often even think and believe what we are taught to. If we take the time to be in our bodies, ourselves, we have a sense of our own selves and beliefs and ideas and feelings with which to engage in the world. We can re-learn and teach ourselves to do this. We can even ask ourselves questions, like, what do I need right now? Who am I this morning? Do I need to eat, do I need to drink something, do I need some time before I speak with others, etc.?
That’s it. That’s my message today. Give it a try. You may be surprised how much this helps you.
